This is my kid Yosuke in his 3 year old days. The QuickTime movie was taken by QuickCam, a tiny B&W digital camera for Mac and then converted into a gif movie file using a software SmartDubbing.

Resume

Hiroshi Igata was born in Hamamatsu-city, Shizuoka, JAPAN in 1960. Hamamatsu is a medium city in central Japan, home of many manufacturing companies including HONDA, SUZUKI and Hamamatsu Photonics.

He received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1984. Then he joined Toyota Motor Corporation, and has been working for Toyota to date.

In Toyota, he worked for chassis design division and vehicle experiment & evaluation division. Since 1990, he has been in charge of designing software of electronic control units (ECUs) for anti-lock braking systems, traction control systems, etc. He presented his first paper "A new control method to improve performance of throttle type traction control system" at 1993 SAE annual conference in Detroit.

In 1992, he had a chance to translate Professor Suh's book "The Principles of Design" into Japanese with eleven of his friends working in various companies in Japan. The translation group was supervised by Professor Hatamura of the Department of Engineering Synthesis, the University of Tokyo.

He received an M.S.M.E. from MIT in June 1996 after two years study at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of MIT. His thesis is on an application of the axiomatic approach to the software design of automotive on-board computers.

After working for Toyota for 36 years,he retiredfrom Toyota and joined Tier IV, an autonomy start up in Tokyo.

Axiomatic Design

Axiomatic Design is a design methodology advocated by Professor Nam P. Suh, Head of Mechanical Engineering Department, MIT.

Seminar at MIT

A seminar "Nano-manufacturing and Advanced Robotics in the University of Tokyo" by Professor Hatamura and his colleagues was held at MIT, April 30,'96.
